About Creekside Morgans
Creekside Morgans, owned by Joe and Marion Gaigal, is located in the rich farming community of Avoca, New York. Once the epicenter of potato farming, the small agricultural town of Avoca is easily accessed by Interstates 86 and 390 ins what is known as the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.
The site of Creekside Morgans was once the homestead of E.M. Potato Company, which was active from the late 1930s through the mid 1980s. In August of 2003, the homestead was purchased to begin what would come to be known as Creekside Morgans.
Morgan horses have been a part of our married life since the early 1970s, when Joe purchased a filly for Marion from Haley A. Sweeting, Sterling, New York. H.A. Kitty Harris, better known as "Kitty," was to remain a member of the family for better than 30 years, before being humanely euthanized in August, 2005, at 35 years of age. "Kitty" along with her stable mate, Arnona Cathleen, who was purchased from Mary and George Arnold, Arnona Farm, Kanona, New York, enjoyed spending their early years at Holly Hill Farm, Saint James, New York, the home of Joe and Marion located on the North Shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, and in later years at Havens Stocking Creek Morgans. Arnona Cathleen, "Cathleen" for short, remains active, now in her 36th year, with her paddock mate, in Bath, New York.
The business of Creekside Morgans consists of the breeding, showing, and sale of the Morgan horse. In breeding, Creekside Morgans has sought to purchase blood stock whose pedigree has as its foundation, the Morgan horse, Trophy. The breeding stock of Creekside Morgans (CSD) has been carefully selected for temperament, type, and talent from proven bloodlines. Our mission is to produce the versatile Morgan; an easy keeping mount, athletic in ability with the stamina and heart that made the Morgan the horse of choice for the US Cavalry. The goal of our breeding program is to produce stock that exemplifies breed standards (characteristically beautiful heads, a laid back shoulder, with a strong hind quarter). In showing, Creekside Morgans has exhibited its stock in a variety of disciplines in the most competitive arenas. The horses of Creekside Morgans have brought home many honors for their riders, trainers, and owners. In sales, Creekside Morgans has sought a variety of markets to advertise its stock. Additionally, both Joe and Marion have been actively involved in the New York State Morgan Horse Society in an effort to promote the breed and strengthen programs that support uses for the Morgan horse
The success of a breeding program in the current market place depends heavily on the stock's ability to demonstrate performance in a variety of disciplines and show arenas. The selection of a training facility capable of starting young stock, re-inventing the aged horse, or troubled horse is paramount in realizing our stated mission. Additionally, the talent of a knowledgeable farrier is significant in keeping the equine athlete healthy and capable of performing comfortably for many years is required. Add to this the abilities of a Veterinarian as a top priority for both a successful breeding and performance program. To this end, Creekside Morgans is grateful to its trainer/boarding facilities, Veterinarians, farriers, and grooms who are an integral part to the well-being of our horses and the realization of our stated goal. We have experienced loss and disappointment in the years since starting Creekside Morgans and have extended the time line for realizing off-spring carrying the CSD prefix. Our challenges have been great and the rewards have been hard fought.
Sincerely,
Joe and Marion
